Spencer Bridge Engineering awarded three major projects by BEAR Scotland

In 2025, Spencer Bridge Engineering further established their partnership with BEAR Scotland, securing three new projects on landmark bridges across Scotland.

Due to their precision, expertise, and innovative approach to projects, our Spencer Bridge Engineering team are fast becoming one of Scotland’s leading bridge work specialists.

The team is delivering works on some of Scotland’s most iconic structures, including the Kessock, Forth Road, and Tay Road bridges, all vital transport links for the nation.

Here are some progress updates for each of these projects:

Kessock Bridge

Our Spencer Bridge Engineering team have been appointed to deliver access improvements, strengthening and remedial works within all four 45-metre-high towers on Kessock Bridge, which connects North Kessock to Inverness.

The team is now over 40% of the way through the project, having successfully completed all strengthening works on levels 1 to 6 of the west pylons. They have since moved on to the east towers and are also carrying out painting works along the outer edges of the west towers.

Great progress is being made on the bridge and works are on track to be completed by September 2026.

Tay Road Bridge

The team have also been appointed to replace two underdeck gantries on Tay Road Bridge which connects Dundee to Newport-on-Tay.

Our in-house designers are currently approaching the end of the design stage of the project, during which they have developed innovative solutions, including an advanced web traction drive system designed to improve propulsion performance.

These design works help make sure the final output meets all access requirements, follows current regulations, and reflects exactly what the client is looking for. They’ll also guide the whole journey, from fabrication right through to installation on site.

Once completed, expected to be in 2027, these works will play a crucial role in keeping the bridge safe for all 26,000 daily users.

Forth Road Bridge

The team have also been appointed to carry out works on the Forth Road Bridge which spans the Fifth of Forth, connecting Edinburgh with Fife.

The works involve replacing the lateral thrust bearings near the towers of the bridge, which have reached the end of their serviceable life span.

Preparatory works, including scaffolding installation, steelwork strengthening, painting, and complex temporary access works are underway and will enable the extensive replacement process which will begin in 2026.
