Spencer Group hits all-time high for Award Wins in 2025

2025 marked a milestone year for us at Spencer Group, with a record number of accolades earned across esteemed national and regional awards, highlighting the exceptional work of our projects, teams, and colleagues.

Best Place to Work (Large Firm) – CN Workforce Awards

Marking our seventh award of the year, we are proud to have been named Best Place to Work (Large Firm) at the CN Workforce Awards 2025, our third recognition affirming our commitment to fostering a positive, supportive, and rewarding workplace for our people.

These awards truly reflect what we strive for at Spencer Group, creating a workplace where our people feel inspired to be their best selves. Recognitions like these celebrate the culture we’ve built across the company since day one.

Contractor of the Year (Contract over £5m) – National Building & Construction Awards 2025

We had the privilege of accepting the award for Contractor of the Year at the prestigious 2025 National Building & Construction Awards in October, marking our sixth award win of the year for the company. It was a real honour for us to receive this accolade, which serves as a continued reflection of the hard work, expertise and dedication demonstrated by our teams across the business every day.

As part of this award, our Tyseley Depot Project, a flagship example for the benefits of Early Contractor Involvement, was recognised, highlighting the quality and innovation that underpin our approach to project delivery.

Commitment to Employee Development – G4C Yorkshire & Humber Awards 2025

Spencer Group were awarded the Commitment to Employee Development Award at the G4C (Generation 4 Change) Yorkshire & Humber Awards in October, yet another testament to our commitment to championing employee wellbeing.

Investing in our people and empowering them to reach their full potential is central to who we are at Spencer Group. Through our Personal Development Review initiative, we foster open and honest conversations with our colleagues, creating a workplace where everyone feels supported and valued.

A special mention goes to Oliver Walkington, Quantity Surveyor at Spencer Bridge Engineering, who was also shortlisted for HE Student of the Year at the event.

Heritage & Infrastructure Award – Scottish Civil Engineering Awards

The Spencer Bridge Engineering team secured their third award win of 2025 in August, claiming the Heritage & Infrastructure Award at the Scottish Civil Engineering Awards for their work on the Connel Bridge New Walkways Project.

This recognition highlights not only the project’s technical excellence, but also the commitment of the team and partners in delivering a safe, innovative solution for one of Scotland’s most historic structures.

Our strong partnership with BEAR Scotland and Transport Scotland is essential to delivering complex projects like this across the country.

Historic Bridge Project of the Year- New Civil Engineer Bridges Awards 2025

Spencer Bridge Engineering claimed their second award of the year at the New Civil Engineer Bridges Awards 2025 in July, another win for their exceptional work on our Menai Suspension Bridge Hanger Replacement Project.

The team received the award for Historic Bridge Project of the Year, adding another accolade to their collection. The judges praised their work as:

“A highly complex structural intervention, delivered with outstanding planning, precision, and care. Completed on time, within budget, and preserving a vital historic asset to the highest standards.”

Best Place to Work- New Civil Engineer Awards 2025

Spencer Group were recognised for our commitment to employee wellbeing and development in July, claiming the award for Best Place to Work – ‘Contractor’ in the prestigious New Civil Engineer Awards 2025.

This win reflects our ongoing commitment to creating an inclusive, diverse, and supportive workplace for all colleagues. Through initiatives such as Mental Health First Aiders, our Time to Talk Day pledge, and family-friendly policies, including flexible working hours and additional family leave, we actively promote a culture that values wellbeing and encourages our people to maintain a healthy work-life balance.

New Life 2025 – Bridges Awards

In March, Spencer Bridge Engineering were recognised for their hanger replacement works on the iconic Menai Suspension Bridge, receiving the Bridges Award for New Life in the 2025 Bridges Awards organised by Bridge, Design & Engineering Magazine.

The team successfully replaced and painted 168 of the 208 wire rope hangers on the iconic Grade I-listed bridge. Their work restored the full structural integrity of the 200-year-old crossing, which connects Anglesey to mainland Wales, and eliminated a critical risk to public safety, making this a truly well-deserved win for the team.
