2025 has been a landmark year of progress, innovation and continued evolution across the Spencer Group family.
Our strategy of empowering each specialist business unit to operate with clarity, focus and sector-specific identity has continued to demonstrate real, measurable value. With dedicated teams, clearer brand architecture and strengthened operational capability across Bridges, Rail, Building & Civil Engineering, M&E, XER Schedule Toolkit, Layer8 and now AeroTruss, we enter 2026 with more momentum than ever.
This year saw the successful launch of two major new businesses within the Group: Layer8, now live with its own brand, website and digital presence, and AeroTruss, whose new website and digital assets position the business strongly for growth in the transport infrastructure market. We also delivered a major milestone for XER, with the launch of the XER 2.0 website and significantly enhanced XER 1.4 Toolkit, setting a new standard for digital experience and product quality.
Across our engineering and construction divisions, 2025 has been a year of outstanding project delivery. Whether through award-winning heritage bridge refurbishment, complex rail depot enhancements, materials-handling schemes or major civils projects, the quality of our engineering, design capability and in-house M&E expertise continues to set us apart. This work has contributed to a record year of recognition, with seven national awards acknowledging our excellence, innovation and our commitment to our people.
Our financial performance has remained strong, with turnover rising 15% to £70m, a £5.1m net cash inflow, and £83m of secured work heading into the new financial year. These results reflect disciplined project execution, operational resilience and the dedication of our people across every part of the Group.
Yet while 2025 has been an exceptional year in many ways, our greatest achievements have been delivered in partnership with our clients. Your trust, collaboration and openness are fundamental to our success, and your feedback this year has been both encouraging and deeply appreciated.
These comments encapsulate what matters most to us: strong relationships, excellent communication, a collaborative ethos and consistently high-quality delivery. We are proud to be recognised not only for our technical ability, but for being a trusted partner who listens, adapts and works with clients to find the best solutions, often in challenging environments and live operational settings.
To every client we have worked with this year, whether on long-term frameworks, complex engineering programmes or early-stage design work: thank you. Your partnership is fundamental to our success, and we remain committed to strengthening these relationships even further as we move into 2026.
Our SHEQ, IT Services, HR, Finance, Design, Business Development, Marketing, Procurement, Resources, Admin, Commercial, Estimating, and Facilities teams continue to provide the foundations that allow our businesses to thrive. Improvements made this year in systems, digital tools, internal communications, brand governance and reporting have created a stronger, more connected and more efficient organisation.
We also remain committed to investing in our people. With new apprentices, graduates and colleagues joining us across the Group, our focus on personal development and wellbeing has been recognised nationally, reinforcing our reputation as one of the industry’s best places to work.
As we look to 2026, our priorities include further developing our brand identity across divisions, enhancing our digital platforms, and continuing to build our capability to deliver the most challenging multidisciplinary engineering projects in the UK.
On behalf of the Board, thank you for your hard work, dedication and contribution to another outstanding year, and to our clients, thank you for the trust and partnership that make our success possible.
We wish you a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year.
