Apprentices
Mason Creighton and Johnny Reilly have joined our expanding Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) team, while Michael Ward and Dylan McCallion, who are going through their Level 4 HNC Civil Engineering and Technician qualifications, have also become valued members of the Spencer Group family.
Mason Creighton, who completed a triple engineering qualification at the UTC before joining Spencer Group, said
“After seeing my dad working as a contractor on building sites, I knew I wanted to learn a trade as it would provide me with a stable career. I knew that an apprenticeship would be the best way for me to learn whilst starting to earn.
“I was attracted to join Spencer Group in particular because of the wide variety of interesting projects they are involved with and the opportunity to gain further qualifications in the future.
“My goal for the future is to work my way up into a managerial position. I feel confident I will be able to achieve that at Spencer Group. I’ve already spoken to so many people in management roles here who started out as an apprentice just like me, so that is really inspiring.”
Several of our younger team members, who have previously joined Spencer Group through the UTC, have also made notable contributions throughout the year. For example, in March, Trainee Engineer Alex Burr, who completed her apprenticeship in August 2023, was appointed as Project Manager for the Spurn Lightship wet berth project at Hull Marina.
Despite being only 20 years old, Alex oversaw the six-week programme of works on-site, demonstrating exceptional leadership and capability. Additionally, Trainee Quantity Surveyor Lee Chamberlain and Engineering Apprentice George Hodgson also played key roles within the project.
Yvonne Moir, HR Director at Spencer Group, commented:
"We are thrilled to welcome four new apprentices into the business this year as part of our continued collaboration with Ron Dearing UTC. The College consistently provides us with a strong pipeline of young talent who align perfectly with our specific skills and capabilities requirements. I look forward to seeing these new apprentices apply the knowledge and employability skills they’ve developed at Ron Dearing as they embark on their careers with us."
At Spencer Group, we have an unwavering commitment to nurturing the next generation of engineering talent. Our ongoing investment in apprentices and young professionals ensures they continue to grow both in their roles and as individuals, contributing to the success of the business and the industry as a whole.
