Thank you for taking the time to read Spencer Group’s update.
Whether you’re one of our valued clients, suppliers or just interested in what we do at Spencer we are always keen to stay in touch.
January 2019 marks 30 years since Charlie Spencer OBE started the business working from his kitchen table in Hull.
The business he created has thrived over the past three decades by delivering extraordinary projects that promote the very best of British Engineering.
As we move into the New Year, I am pleased to say that our appetite for the extraordinary continues and as is tradition at this time of the year we take the opportunity to reflect on some of our milestones and highlights of the past 12 months...
The Biomass Handling and Storage facility at the Port of Tyne, built to support the Lynemouth Power station, part of the largest Biomass Conversion project in Europe, is now operating and represents the largest project Spencer Group has delivered to date.
Energy Works, the £200m Energy from Waste development conceived by Charlie and on which Spencer Group has delivered the site wide infrastructure continues to progress through commissioning and will next year provide power to over 25,000 homes.
At the Forth Road Bridge we will soon complete repairs to the main structure to arrest issues that caused its closure to all traffic in 2016. This incredibly challenging project working in exposed conditions at height, over water often in confined spaces demonstrates the engineering capability of our business.
We are also currently replacing an initial number of the hanger cables to the Humber Bridge, the first time this has been undertaken since its opening in 1981.
We are supporting Network Rail and a number of train operating companies in the development of rail freight maintenance facilities and by providing additional rail infrastructure to support train stabling and the introduction of the new train fleet. We are providing first class facilities in order that trains can be serviced effectively and efficiently across the network. In nuclear we are supporting the decommissioning of existing nuclear facilities by providing innovative solutions that meet the exacting expectations of the industry.
We are also proud to move into our 13th year of working in framework with Northern Powergrid replacing old equipment in commercial premises.
The above sectors in which we operate demand the highest levels of service and exacting quality standards. By entrusting their critical infrastructure projects to us our clients give us the opportunity to deliver real value by demonstrating the engineering expertise that makes the business what it is today.
This journey has only been made possible by the fantastic people that work for us, our suppliers who have grown with us and of course our clients that have rewarded our efforts with repeat business.
I hope you enjoy this edition and wish you a prosperous New Year.
