Rail Depots
Package 3 involved the removal of a significant section of the existing track to facilitate the 30-metre extension of the Underframe Cleaning (UFC) building. In addition, a newly reconfigured track layout was developed, incorporating a large section of embedded track to provide emergency vehicle access.
Package 4 primarily focused on mechanical and electrical works, this phase included enhancements to the depot’s existing infrastructure, such as the installation of improved ventilation, shore supplies, and mobile gantry cranes.
All works are being carried out while the depot remains operational, with a key focus on minimising disruption to ongoing activities.
We are now progressing with Package 5, which involves the construction of a 100-metre extension to the existing depot building. This expansion will provide stabling for four-car trains on two new tracks (Numbers 11 and 12), along with the installation of new inspection pits on both tracks and the necessary mechanical and electrical services to support the extended facility.
For a closer look at the progress, check out the drone footage from our recent site visit in October, as well as our monthly timelapse, which shows the erection of the first steel structure for the new depot building.
